Welcome to the web pages of Kim Lovelace MRSS(T)
These pages will help you discover something about two passions in my life, shiatsu and qigong. If you want to find out more, there are links (see adjacent panel) to useful websites and you're most welcome to contact me directly about more specific issues.
Shiatsu is a Japanese word meaning “finger pressure”. Its a hands-on therapy originating in Japan. The thumbs, palms, fingers, elbows and knees are used to apply pressure to areas of the body.
Shiatsu is communication through touch. Everybody responds to touch. It helps us discover where our body begins and ends, feels safe to move, where it resists and most importantly where it would like to change.
Physical pressure and releasing techniques enable the body to adjust its physical structure. Regular shiatsu treatments help ward off illness and maintain health.
Shiatsu is not manipulative, it enables the body to articulate. A treatment will also effect the non-physical: our emotions, feelings and self-image. It is impossible to work on the physical body without affecting the non-physical.
There are many conditions that shiatsu may help with:
- Well Being . . .
Well, that's all the ASA says I'm now allowed to say! It seems that even testimonials from clients may no longer include a named condition. Stress is classed as a named condition. Please visit my blog, Ki in Chichester, to find out more.
Recent research shows that in a significant number of clients, shiatsu was found to have beneficial effects.
I specialise in musculo-skeletal problems resulting from trauma (both physical & emotional) and posture related conditions. Many of my clients also present with symptoms (respiratory, digestive, circulatory) that are directly related to a stressful lifestyle.
A shiatsu treatment lasts about one hour, your first session will last a little longer. No oils are used and you are fully clothed. Wear loose fitting or stretchy clothes that don't restrict movement. Treatments usually take place at floor level on a futon, but if this isn't possible a couch is used.
